Offshore Platforms
Well-trained operations staff are important for all facilities – however, offshore platforms provide a particular challenge. For safety and logistical reasons, staff need to be trained before they even gain access to the facility.

Using our 3D modelling and animation capabilities together with our extensive industry experience, we are able to create orientation and equipment training programs which provide a fully immersive experience. By recreating the platform/facility virtually, we can familiarize trainees with the location and function of all equipment and safety routes.
In a recent project, PSR were contracted by a major oil and gas corporation to produce orientation and equipment training for two newly-commissioned platforms in the Gulf of Thailand.

Firstly, we developed a series of orientation e-learning programs for an accommodation platform, detailing the location of equipment as well as critical safety information. Using detailed specifications, we built a 3D model to illustrate the e-learning modules and developed a number of learning games, requiring the trainee to navigate the 3D model to identify emergency exits and items of equipment.

Secondly, work began on orientation and equipment training for a gas processing platform. This time, a more detailed 3D model was created and was used (alongside animated process flow diagrams) to teach trainees the location and function of all items of equipment, as well as the critical safety information required for such a facility.

To enable trainees to become familiar with the layout of the platform, location of equipment and emergency exits, we created a first-person ‘Xbox-style’ learning game.
In parallel, PSR also developed a series of operational procedures for the project. The client was able to prepare staff for operation before the platforms were completed.
